Absolutely! I would rather you call for a quick 5 minute question than wait 1 to 2 weeks for a solution. The only thing I ask is that you try not to call past 10 pm CT as it can disturb the household.
Texts are fine as well
That depends. Long story short, yes but only after all methods have been tried first. If you have a brand new puppy that is going to be a family pet and not a hunting dog with a shock collar and an overzealous attitude, we are gonna have a chat.
Both shock and prong are what are called aversives due to the dogs aversion to the items. With things like shock collars and aversives, using discomfort or pain will almost always make the dog immediately fearful unless you use these items correctly which rarely happens off the bat. They should be used as a last resort after all methods are tried. However, with positive reinforcement, your dog will form positive associations using timing and technique. No matter what methodology you train whether it be aversive heavy, operant conditioning or service dog training, all of them use the tenants of positive reinforcement. It doesn't mean that you will be shoving treats at your dog constantly but rather how to mark a behavior with a reward your dog finds fitting.
Anything you need. A private session works with the issues that you need help with. If there is a behavior or something that requires a more sturdy foundation, we will work on that first before tackling the larger issues. However, a private session is tailored to your distinct family dynamic so you aren't getting a generic training routine.
Each session will also come with typed homework and instruction so you have something to actively work on and refer to.
Puppies before 6 months are still developing in a large way both physically and mentally. Before we can tackle the heel or the fetching on command, we first need to deal with the behaviors like potty training, meeting strangers and not to be a furry piranha 24/7. These group classes are focused more on the behavior foundations but still go over the big training commands.
Adults are more formed in their habits and need a bit more structure. Therefore, while we still work on behaviors like jumping and leash pulling, the adult classes are more trick and structure orientated to make sure your dog knows exactly what is expected out of them when you give a command.
I do. With dog aggressive dogs, or human aggressive dogs, they are a bit more tumultuous and unpredictable. The first 3 lessons with an aggressive dog should always be done in the privacy of the home to make sure that there are no triggers or stimulants during the behavior modification training. I ask you to call me and set up a private session before attempting to bring your dog into a training area to make sure that your dog doesn't have a hard time before we even start.
Actually both! With breeders, I offer basic behaviors for their clients as well as puppy personality testing so each puppy is put in a home that best suits their distinct personality. There are a handful of other services I offer if you are a breeder with questions. As for shelters, I currently am volunteering with a nearby one doing walking and hopefully more once we have the time. My goal is to work on rehabilitation training to increase adoption rates.
